1.
You don’t need a referral from your GP to contact us. You
can call us on the phone during office hours to make an appointment.
2. We
think this is a family thing. So if you have concerns about someone
close to you rather than yourself and their use of drugs or alcohol
then we will also try to help.
3.
We realise how important it can be to talk to someone as soon as
possible and we do try to see people as soon as we can. However,
we are a small organisation and demand is such that there may be
a short waiting time.
4.
It might be that things aren’t so bad so the first thing we
do is arrange for an initial chat with a counsellor. Talk about
what’s on your mind and decide on the next step.
5.
For some people abstinence is the only realistic way forward. If
this is you then you may want to consider our six-week residential
programme where we can offer a deeper level of support.
6.
If your circumstances would make it difficult to take the residential
route or if you think residential is just not needed then you might
choose to go for a series of one-hour sessions once a week over
a period of time. You decide.
7.
You may have to pay some money if you come to Northlands, especially
if you’re working. However, we hope the amounts involved are
reasonable.
8.
Northlands has been working in this field for almost 30 years –
you probably know someone who has been here.
9.
Recovery usually comes in waves. So we encourage you to keep in
touch with a counsellor after you leave us – and there are
weekly group meetings too.
10.
If you can take the first step then we will try to help. Maybe then
things will get better.
